Developed a lump in underarms after 2nd dose of pfizer, Can I assume that it is a side effect of vaccination? It pains as well, though the size has a bit reduced today however wondering why this lump has developed and is there anything to worry about and what is the treatment and how long would it take to go away.
Thank you!

Thank you Aparna for writing it to us. This lumps are lymphnodes enlargement that can happen in about <1% patients after vaccination. It is an immunological reaction. As it is already decreasing in size, you should be reassured that it will go away gradually over next 7 to 10 days. If the area over the lump starts appearing red or hot, you start having persistent fevers > 101 F, worsening pain or difficulty arm movements; or persistent lump beyond 4 weeks; please consult a physician for further evaluation. For pain, you can choose either acetaminophen or Ibuprofen as needed (not more than 3-4 times a day) for relief. Do not hesitate to contact us if any concern arises. Thank you.
